The compressed files used for Windows 98 are slightly less efficient, so downloading them will take somewhat longer. The program will still work for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. With Windows 98 computers, there are sometimes memory issues. Windows XP computers typically have 1000 to 4000 MB memory, but Windows 98 computers may have 64 MB or 32 MB. On a Windows 98 computer with only 32 MB memory, the MatchMaker Gilled program will run but not the MatchNongilled Program. This means that Version 2.0 will function like Version 1.31. It is still worth updating for new illustrations, names, and descriptions. The nongilled descriptions and illustrations are still available on the List menu. Windows 98 computers could have more difficulties downloading the large illustration files. If this proves to be a problem, you can obtain a Version 2.0 CD by mail. Be sure to specify that you have a Windows 98 computer. 1. Save these three files to any location on your computer. Do not try to run them from the website. The contents of this folder can then be copied to one or more CDs. 1. Uninstall any previous version of MatchMaker. If you skip the Uninstall procedure, the program will probably work quite well anyway. By default the program is then run from the CD, but an option in the program will copy the illustrations to the Hard Drive so that the CD is no longer required: If you wish to receive free updates in future (usually extra illustrations) contact Ian Gibson by e-mail. These are large files that together fill most of a CD. Downloading them may take more than an hour even with high speed access. It may be faster to download files simultaneously. You can install the program to a different application folder from C:\Program Files\MatchMaker\. You may also install the data to a different folder from C:\MatchMaker_Data\. However, in the latter case a file called dataloc.txt must contain the new address of the data. Double click on this file in the application folder, normally C:\Program Files\MatchMaker\, and edit it directly. RESTRICTIONS: If you wish, the three files may be copied onto other computers. CDs may be given to others as long as the following information is transmitted and that you do not charge for them. The copyright for the illustrations is held by the photographers and the images may not be used for other purposes without their permission. The program and descriptions may not be used for any other purpose without the permission of Ian Gibson. The program is not designed to determine edibility of mushrooms and it should not be used for that purpose. Ian Gibson |
