Download Program (to Make CD)

  1. IF YOU HAVE NORTON ANTIVIRUS/SECURITY INSTALLED, Click HERE first.

  2. Save this file to any location on your computer. Do not try to run it from the website.

  3. Double Click on the file.

  4. Follow the directions to unzip files to the folder C:\MatchMaker_CD\. A different folder may be used if desired.

The contents of this folder can then be copied to one or more CDs.
Do not include the folder itself, just the contents. The folder name \MatchMaker_CD\ should not appear on the CD.

From the CD they may be installed on any computer like this:

  1. Uninstall any previous version of MatchMaker. Read the details here if you are unsure how to do this or you have edited the descriptions or added species or illustrations in a previous version. If you skip the Uninstall procedure, the program will probably work anyway, but stray leftover files can cause problems sometimes.

  2. Normally when the CD is put into a CD drive, you are given the option to Install after 5-15 seconds.
If this automatic process does not take place go to the CD and click on setup.exe.
There may be a delay of up to a few minutes while the large setup.exe file is taken into memory, before further instructions appear.
Further details are available here if needed.

  3. During installation, you may be asked if you want to allow a program from an unknown publisher to make changes to my computer. Choose Yes.

  4. On some Windows 8 systems, you may have to adjust Windows' Compatibility Settings to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)".

The program will then run from the hard drive just as if you had downloaded the program for hard drive (MatchMaker211HD.exe). The CD does not need to be in the drive for the program to run.

If you wish to receive free updates in future (usually extra illustrations) contact Ian Gibson by e-mail.

These are large files that together fill most of a CD. Downloading them may take more than an hour even with high speed access.
If you are unable to download them, you can obtain a free Version 2.2.1 CD by mail.

You can install the data to a different folder from the default location for program data. (The default location varies with the version of Windows, but once you have installed MatchMaker you can find the location by choosing Data Location on the Advanced menu.) If you want to install to a different folder, a file called dataloc.txt must contain the new address of the data for the program to run properly. You make a file dataloc.txt containing the correct data folder address on one line, for example
C:\Data\MatchMaker\
or
E:\Data\MatchMaker\
Using a text editor like Notepad, save it to a known location, then copy it into the same folder as MatchMaker.exe.
(for instance C:\Program Files (x86)\MatchMaker\).

RESTRICTIONS: If you wish, the three files may be copied onto other computers. CDs may be given to others as long as the following information is transmitted and that you do not charge for them. The copyright for the illustrations is held by the photographers and the images may not be used for other purposes without their permission. The program and descriptions may not be used for any other purpose without the permission of Ian Gibson. The program is not designed to determine edibility of mushrooms and it should not be used for that purpose.
