WHAT IS NEW?

  • This is a minor update. Changes include the following:

    • An important article stabilizing some morel names has been incorporated.
    • A Table for morels is included, as well as Tables for dark Arrhenias and small Agaricus.
    • The name MycoMatch has been introduced as an alternative to MatchMaker.
    • Additional text has been added to emphasize copyright issues.
    • Some new species, particularly in Cortinarius, and a few name changes.

There were two important new features in version 2.2 that can be used independently of the rest of the program. They are found under the new top level menu PICTORIAL KEY/TABLES.

    • The PICTORIAL KEY contains photos of approximately 1,500 species arranged in groups, with similar species side by side for comparison and a concise summary of their differences. It provides a different method for mushroom identification.

    • The TABLES compare certain difficult groups of similar species of mushrooms in table form. You can either look at the tables that have been created for the current CATEGORY of mushrooms you are browsing, or look at ALL THE TABLES.

For both of these features, there is a menu item you can use to periodically check our website for updates. The pictorial key and tables will be updated more frequently than the rest of the program.

  • MatchMaker is available for Mac users without purchasing a Windows emulator such as Parallels. The version that is installed on Mac computers uses open source WINE software plus WineBottler, which packages your app and WINE up in one small bundle to make it a one-step process. Because the Delete key on a Mac computer is different and there is no Insert key, you can now press F1 instead of the Delete key and F2 instead of the Insert key.

  • New genera are included earlier than previously, if they are accepted by the online Index Fungorum and MycoBank. The older names may still be used to find descriptions by using Index All Categories on the List menu, or using the search function on Match -> Make a New Match.
