Download Beta Program for Mac Now

  • THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH MacOS 10.15 (Catalina). In our limited testing so far, it works most of the time on MACs with OSX 10.6 (Snow Leapord) through 10.14 (Mohave), apart from some minor features listed below. The details of the instructions are important. It uses open source WINE software plus WineSkin, which packages your app and WINE up in one little bundle to make it a one-step process. This process does not work with Catalina at present. Please send feedback, including suggestions on clear instructions for different devices, and potential problems, to Ian Gibson at ig@islandnet.com.

  1. Make sure you are logged on as the administrator for your computer.

  2. Download the ZIP file and move it from your DOWNLOADS folder to your APPLICATIONS folder (it may not work elsewhere).

  3. Double click the ZIP file to expand it and create the application.

  4. Do not double click the application file that is created - on machines with high security settings you must Control-Click (hold down the CONTROL key before you double click the application) and choose OPEN to allow it to execute the first time. Once you see MatchMaker start, you are good to go, and double clicking the application will start it.

  5. If you are asked if WineskinX11 should accept or deny incoming network connections, you may deny it - they are not necessary.

  6. If you see the message "MatchMaker is not optimized for your Mac and needs to be updated" you can safely ignore it.

  7. If you get the message "ERROR! cannot write to Info.plist", the most common reason is that these instructions were not followed precisely. Very carefully try again (making sure the zip file was in your Applications folder, and that you opened the app with Control-Click, etc). If the problem persists, please let us know.

  • Known issues for the MAC version of MatchMaker do not affect the main functions of the program, but here are some differences from Version 2.3.1 for PC.
    • When the instructions call for pressing the "Delete" key, you must press F1 instead (for example, when removing species from a match list).
    • When clicking on a menu item, the sub-menus may not show the right text, or may be greyed or un-greyed incorrectly until you move the mouse over them.
    • After you minimize MatchMaker, clicking on the mushroom icon may not restore the window, but you must click on the document icon that was also created on the right hand side of the app bar. Or, you can choose the WINDOW menu item and choose the window by name - it will be the bottom choice on the menu (choosing Bring all to Front does not always work).
    • When you reduce the size of the images, some colour corruption occurs.
    • Glossary Hyperlinks do nothing when you click on them, so that option has been turned off by default.
    • The RANGE menu item does not work: every map is solid red.
    • When using Options -> Allow Multiple Illustrations, previous illustrations will be hidden behind the main window when a new illustration is brought up.
    • Do not attempt to upgrade the Pictorial Key or Tables from the menus - that is for PCs only. MAC users will be provided with an entirely new version when an update is available.
